Marketing

With the fine effort of the first OSM graphic novel completed, the question comes up of getting the word out. Several weeks ago, I entered a local comic book/gaming shop and inquired if they had heard of the OSM book and if they were going to offer it. The shop owner gave me a dumbfounded look. I told him to check out the website, but more needs to be done.

In addition to grassroots efforts, it would be beneficial if those "higher up" could be contacted as well. While I understand that the OSM franchise has to show some success (e.g., graphic novel sales, good reviews, considerable fan interest) before other things (movies/cartoons, etc.) can occur, it may help speed up the process if some "bigwigs" in the entertainment industry can be introduced to the OSM concept and shown the graphic novel.

Who knows...perhaps some prominent person of influence remembers playing with the OSM all those many, many years ago...

First Impressions of Novel

I see this as a good first effort. It is solid material and I urge all fans of the OSM to obtain a copy, read it and present their opinions here.

I do not want to give away the plotline - other than what has already been discussed here, re: Mystron, etc.

I will say that the byplay at the end between Colossus Rex and Orbitron (about Orbitron's nudity) was quite amusing. As was the earlier bit about Rex's excuse for being late for the meeting.

But, let's not make C. Rex into a buffoon...

Further comments from my side may be coming; however, I do not want to prejudice readers with respect to their own comments. Rather, I'd prefer for now to facilitate discussion and enter the "fray" once it is started.

Got Book

I just received the graphic novel today. I'll need some time to read it carefully and "digest" it and then I'll comment on it here. I'd also like to hear from others when they've read the book - stop by and leave some comments.

New Poll

The new poll (and please continue with the original two, which are the most important) is to answer which are the most under-rated OSM characters.

Rules: vote for two from series one and two from series two. Please do not vote for your favorites from the other polls. Instead, ask yourself which four (two from each group) of the 13 characters do you see as having potential of being interesting if people paid more attention to them. Not your favorite(s), but others that you see as intriguing and who should get more "play" from OSM fans and in future graphic novels.

This new poll is set up so you can vote for more than one character at a time.

Current Polling

This is still early for the popularity polling, but there are some interesting trends. For series one, I'm not surprised by the popularity of Colossus Rex and Astro-Nautilus (as well as Alpha-7), but I am surprised that Commander Comet is right up there in the running. I note that Xodiac and Orbitron haven't yet received any votes. While neither of those two are my favorites (I voted for Astro-Nautilus, but it's really more or less equal with him and Colossus Rex), I do think both characters are under-rated. That'll be a topic for the next opinion poll.

The big surprise for series two is the very strong showing for Mystron, which supports the idea of having him as a major player in the first graphic novel. I would have thought Gemini would be a clear winner. Anyway, it is still early.

Mystron The Villain

According to this, the villain in the upcoming graphic novel will be the second series character Mystron. That's interesting, and we will see how that character is handled in the book.

With four votes in so far, Mystron is leading the favorites for second series characters. It will be interesting to see how this may change with the graphic novel.

OSM Rebirth

First, I'd like to thank The Outer Space Men, LLC, as well as everyone involved in the upcoming graphic novel, for their hard work and dedication in bringing the OSM back from "the dead." For all those who remember the OSM, this is truly a wonderful project.

I believe that one objective we should all have is to promote the OSM characters (both first and second series) to the level of serious players in the graphic novel/comics/scifi/action figure arena. There is no reason why the OSM franchise one day cannot be at the level of established team character endeavors, such as The Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Justice League. If we think big, we can look forward to the day where the OSM can rival Spider-Man or Bat-Man. Of course, we are at the beginning of the process, and must take one day at a time.

The first step is to do what we can to promote the OSM, the OSM website (linked to from here), and the graphic novel. It is important that the first graphic novel be viewed as an artistic and financial success. Let's work to get the word out and assist the novel to be viewed in the manner which it should be. It is an impressive achievement, many years in the making.

The nature of the OSM means that the stories that can be told about them are limited only by the imagination. They can have adventures here on Earth, on their home planets, or in the vastness of outer space. Or, perhaps, with a nod toward Gamma-X, even in the Fourth Dimension!

We are at the beginning of an exciting journey. Get on board and enjoy the ride!
